
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, we celebrate the inspiring journey of Sanghamitra Roy, an accomplished educator, artist, author, and role model who beautifully balances dedication to education, performing arts, and social service.
Sanghamitra Roy, wife of Maj Gen Subrata Roy, serves as an English teacher at Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi, where she is widely respected for her commitment to nurturing young minds. A trained Kathak dancer and choreographer, she seamlessly blends the worlds of academics and art to inspire creativity and holistic learning among her students.
Her remarkable journey reached a national milestone when she was crowned Mrs India Charismatic 2025–2026 at the Mrs India Official National Grand Finale held in Jaipur on 21 December 2025. She is also a proud ICOSA Conclave awardee for Exemplary Teaching Skills, recognizing her outstanding contribution to education.
A CBSE Resource Person, Sanghamitra specializes in Art Integration under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), promoting innovative teaching methods that connect academic learning with creative expression.
Her dedication to community service has been widely acknowledged through several prestigious recognitions from Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA). She received the President AWWA Award (2020) from Mrs Veena Narawane for supporting the education of soldiers’ wards during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, she was honoured with the Regional AWWA Central Command Award presented by Mrs Nidhi Dimri for her contributions to ASHA School, including oral-health awareness initiatives for children with special needs. In 2023, she received another AWWA Award from Mrs Vijaya Khandhuri, Regional President, Western Command, for empowering soldiers’ families.
Her compassionate initiatives for soldiers also earned her the Army Chief’s Memento and the Operation Sindoor Badge, presented by Gen Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, in 2024 and 2025 for sending handmade Rakhis to soldiers stationed on the borders, a heartfelt gesture symbolizing gratitude and solidarity.
In the world of performing arts, Sanghamitra has made notable contributions through choreography and cultural performances. She choreographed a special performance for Kargil Vijay Diwas 2019, where Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the Chief Guest, and also choreographed for the G20 welcome programme for Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Her choreography has further been selected for the Delhi State Republic Day celebrations (January 2026).
Apart from teaching and performing, Sanghamitra is also actively involved in literary and intellectual platforms. She anchored the Army Literature Festival “Abhivyakti” in 2021 and 2024, moderated the “Nation First” book release at the prestigious Manekshaw Centre, and served as a panelist at the launch of Col (Dr) Nikita Naredi’s book “Am I Just a Baby Vending Machine.”
Her inspiring journey has been highlighted on multiple platforms including RJ Simran’s Radio Mirchi Army Day Live Show (15 January 2021) and Education Post, recognizing her achievement as Mrs India Charismatic 2025.
Sanghamitra is also a published author in national print media, with upcoming English and NCERT-aligned books currently in development. She runs a YouTube channel dedicated to awareness and dance, and is presently editing the autobiography of Air Chief B. S. Dhanoa, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, VM, adding another remarkable dimension to her literary contributions.

Deeply committed to social responsibility, she supports Aangan, a school for labourers’ children, and contributes to CRY (Child Rights and You), reflecting her strong belief in education and empowerment for all.
Her contributions have also been recognized internationally through honors such as the 34th World Environment Day Ecological Education Award and the Excellence in Higher and Tertiary Education Readiness Award.
